Investment Advisor

The Investment Advisor will be responsible for giving, offering or agreeing to give, to persons in their capacity as investors or potential investors or as agent for an investor or potential investor, a personal recommendation in respect of one or more transactions relating to one or more instruments.
 Qualification Required: An investment advisor would be expected to possess a degree in banking and finance or BSc. (Hons.) Financial Services and/ or equivalent qualifications in finance [example Certificate for Financial Advisers].
 

Promotion and Selling

The person who shall be appointed to promote and sell products offered to retail clients shall be responsible to explain the features of the particular product to a client or prospective client without actually providing investment advice with respect to that product, such that it is the client who ultimately decides whether to invest in the particular product or not.
 Qualification Required: Persons applying would be expected to possess the relevant training and information provided on the products offered.
 

Trader on the Malta Stock Exchange

The trader would be responsible for trading in financial instruments and executing transactions on behalf of clients of quoted financial instruments of companies and other entities on the Malta Stock Exchange.
 Qualification Required: The trader should preferably have a diploma in banking and finance. Additional all prospective traders must undergo the requisite training provided by the Malta Stock Exchange and must successfully complete any relevant test.
 

Qualified Fund Accountant

The Fund Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the accounts of collective investment schemes including in most instances determining the net assets value of the said schemes. The Fund Accountant would ordinarily also be responsible for carrying out the reconciliations of the Fund’s Bank Statements, Pricing the Investment Portfolio and the Preparation of the Financial Statements of the Scheme
 Qualification Required: A Qualified Fund Accountant would be expected to possess a good accounting background such as a degree or equivalent qualification in accounting.
 

Fund Administrator

The Fund Administrator would ordinarily be responsible for amongst others the Payment of Bills (relating to the Fund), Performance Reporting, Compliance Reporting, Processing of applications for units in the Fund including Preparation of Contract Notes and Anti Money Laundering Checks.
 Qualification Required: The Fund Administrator would be expected to possess an Accounting Technician Diploma and/or a qualification at A Level Standard in relative discipline. A good knowledge of the securities legislation, regulations and the Investment Services Guidelines would be an asset.
 

Compliance Officer

The Compliance Officer would be responsible for the Compliance obligations of the Licence Holder including compliance with the applicable prevention of Money Laundering Obligations. A good knowledge of the securities legislation, regulations and the Investment Services Guidelines is essential.
 Qualification Required: The Compliance Officer should preferably have a degree in banking and finance or accounting or be a doctor of laws. Additional relevant qualifications include specific post graduate qualifications that focus on compliance in general.
 

Fund Manager

The Fund Manager is the person responsible for the management of the assets of the Fund in line with the Investment Objectives, Policies and Restrictions of the Fund. The Fund Manager should have a good knowledge of the capital markets.
 Qualifications Required: The Fund Manager should possess a degree in Banking and Finance and preferably a specialised Masters Degree in Finance.
 

Financial Analyst

The Financial Analyst is the person responsible for monitoring the capital markets in general and securities in particular with a view to identifying good investment opportunities. The Financial Analyst is the person that provides relevant information regarding capital markets to the investment advisors/portfolio manager. The latter will use such information in their investment decisions.
 Qualification Required: The Financial Analyst would be expected to possess a good accounting background and a degree or equivalent qualification in banking/finance.
 

Financial Engineer

The Financial Engineer develops and creates financial instruments and exploits financial opportunities. Investment products such as hedge funds in particular make extraordinary use of financial engineering. It is an application of science-based mathematical model to decisions about savings, investing, borrowing, lending and managing risk. It creates functional financial devices – convertible bonds, warrants and default swaps.
 Qualification Required: The Financial Engineer would be expected to possess a good background in maths and/or accounts and a degree or equivalent in banking and finance.
 

Risk Manager

The job entails the identification of all those risk affecting the operations of the organisation and its respective stakeholders in achieving its desired objectives. The risk manager must be able to utilise a variety of tools in risk analysis with the objective of measuring and evaluating such risk appropriately with a view of reporting recommendations for control measure and contingencies.
 Qualification Required: The Risk Manager would be expected to possess a professional qualification in Risk Management (AIRM) or its equivalent as deemed relevant by the interviewing organisation.
 

Qualified Trusts Manager

The Trusts Manager will be responsible for the establishment and administration of trusts, as well as the management of the Trusts Department. Establishment: The Manager will ordinarily be responsible for creating a long-term relationship with the Settlor and to this end identifying the Settlor and Beneficiaries in compliance with Prevention of Money Laundering obligations, recording relevant information about the wishes and intentions of the Settlor, selecting the type of trusts which are appropriate to meet the requirements of the Settlor, drafting of trust documentation and then dealing with the Settlor for final execution of trust deed. Administration: The Manager is to assist in the transfer of trust property at initial settlement and subsequently to monitor administration of the trust, oversee specialist services provided by investment advisors, undertake regular reviews of trust assets and matters, ensure the preparation of financial accounts and reports and liaise with beneficiaries. The Manager must ensure the implementation of the law with respect to the administration of the trust and the Code of Conduct of Trustees throughout the term of the trust.
 Qualifications Required: A Trusts Manager would be expected to be qualified in law, accountancy or a related university degree and as a minimum, to have successfully completed the IFSP/STEP foundation course on Trusts. The post also requires a good understanding of computer systems, audit background, some tax understanding, a feel for legal requirements, and ability to manage people. Experience in trusts or the financial services industry would be an asset. The Manager is expected to follow CPD as is locally provided.
 

Trusts Administrator

The Trusts Administrator will be responsible for the administration of trusts. The Administrator assists the Trusts Manager in the transfer of trust property at initial settlement and subsequently to monitor administration of the trust, oversee specialist services provided by investment advisors, undertake regular reviews of trust assets and matters, ensure the preparation of financial accounts and reports and liaise with beneficiaries as well as to perform other administrative duties relating to an existing portfolio of international clients.
 Qualifications Required: A Trusts Administrator would be expected to have relevant knowledge of international companies and trusts and preferably experience in banking and finance. As a minimum, applicants should have successfully completed the IFSP/STEP foundation course on Trusts. Preference will be given to persons having ‘A’ Levels and who would have pursued studies in the Business and Commerce sector at MCAST. The post also requires a good understanding of computer systems, excellent communication skills and a good command of written and spoken English. Moreover, the applicant should be prepared to undergo ongoing training and development.
 

Lawyer Specialising in Trust Law

A lawyer who is specialised in trust law gives general advise on possible trusts solutions available in terms of Maltese law.  The job entails drafting and reviewing draft trust deeds and the provision of relevant legal advise on an on going basis.
 Qualifications Required The job holder would need to be in possession of a Doctor of Laws degree and a warrant to practice as a lawyer.  A post graduate degree in financial services or one that focusses on trusts and trust and estate administration would be an asset.  These academic qualifications would need to be complementary to practical experience in the finanacial services market in general and in trusts services in particular.
 

Lawyer Specialising in Investment Services

A lawyer who is specialised in investment services provides general advice of a legal nature in connection with established or new investment services related solutions or products.  The job involves drafting and reviewing of relevant documentation of a general legal nature, prospectuses and  investment services agreements.   The latter could involve a number of parties either in an investment services related venture or the provision of investment services as such.  The job holder will also be involved in providing legal advice and assistance and to liaiase with clients, regulators and other stakeholders involved in the invetment services sector.
 Qualifications Required The job holder would need to be in possession of a Doctor of Laws degree and a warrant to pracice as a lawyer.  A post graduate degree in financial services focussing on the investment services sector would be an asset especially when coupled with in-depth knowledge of market practices and trends.
